Therefore, a noun can be Indefinite to refer to a unspecific noun and can be a definite to refer to a specific noun.

Now we can say (AL) ال definitely makes a word definite. Tanween definitely makes a word indefinite.
A word cannot have both AL ال and tanween attached.
Now, if a word doesn’t have AL (definite) or tanween (indefinite), we can find ourselves in a bit of a pickle! So we must remember the following:
Definite Noun:
1) If the noun is a proper Name even with tanween it is Definite
2) If the Noun start with (AL) ال it is Definite
3) If the Noun is in possession status of another Noun it is Definite
4) All Pronouns are Definite
5) Demonstrative Nouns are Definite
6) Relative Pronouns are Definite
7) Name of place or human and animals are Definite
নির্দিষ্ট ( Proper/Specific) اسم – ইসম হচ্ছে ৭ ধরণের।
১. নির্দিষ্ট কোন কিছুর নাম (Proper names: Names of places or people)
২. যে শব্দ নির্দিষ্টকরণে ال (the) দিয়ে শুরু হয়।
৩. সর্বনাম (Pronouns)
৪. ইঙ্গিত বা ইশারা শব্দ – ইসমুল ইশারা (Pointers)
৫. সম্বন্ধযুক্ত শব্দ বা ইসম মা’সুল (Relative Noun)
৬. “হে” বা সম্ভাষণ করার অর্থে <strong>يا </strong>ব্যবহৃত ইসম
৭. বাক্যের মাজরুর ইসমের আগের ইসম
Note:
If the ism after the possession is Definite, then the possession will become definite. অন্য কথায় মাজরুর যদি নির্দিষ্ট হয় তাহলে পূর্বের ইসমও নির্দিষ্ট ইসম (Definite) হবে।
যদি কোন বাক্যে অধিকৃত বস্তু (ইসম) এর পরের ইসমটি নির্দিষ্ট হয় ال (the) থাকে তাহলে পূর্বের ইসমটিও নির্দিষ্ট ইসম হবে যদিও তার সাথে ال (the) না থাকে কিংবা দাম্মা থাকে।
যেমন بَابُ الْبَيْتِ কার দরজা? ঘরের দরজা। ঘরের ইসমের সাথে যেহেতু “ال ” আছে এবং নিদিষ্ট ইসম বুঝায় তাই দরজাও এখানে নির্দিষ্ট হবে। দরজার মালিকানা কার? ঘরের অর্থাৎ ঘর হচ্ছে মাজরুর।
আর এই ৭ ধরণের ইসম ছাড়া বাকি ইসম সাধারণ (Common ) ইসম।
